In 2016, a pregnant woman expressed a desire to leave her boyfriend. Instead, she was shot dead.

Now, more than five years later, her killer learned he will be spending decades behind bars.

Recently, a judge in Alabama sentenced Travarus Jerome Jackson to 60 years in prison for the killing of Shuterica Lipscomb, 22, in December 2016, according to He was convicted of reckless manslaughter for her death.

WBRC reported that Lipscomb was shot at her Homewood, Alabama, apartment complex. Jackson then drove the victim to a hospital but fled the scene.

Hours after arriving at the hospital, Lipscomb died from her injuries, according to WBRC.

Jackson was arrested at her apartment later in the day, the TV station reported.

The motive for the killing was never clear, but the victim’s aunt, Sandra Thomas, told that the mom of a 2-year-old wanted to leave Jackson. Lipscomb was 7-months pregnant when she was killed.

"She wanted him to leave, but she didn't know how to tell him,'' Thomas told "From what I understand, he was jealous and controlling."

The children were not home at the time of the shooting.

Lipscomb had recently started working as a security guard at an airport in the months before her killing, according to Family members described her as bubbly and outgoing.

“She was beautiful inside and out. She just enjoyed life,’’ Thomas told “She was a beautiful soul.”
