A Colorado man fled the scene from police and later caused a fatal car crash, killing one person, police said.

On Oct. 28, Longmont police said they tried to perform a vehicle stop on 37-year-old James Michael Kramer, but he fled the scene in a stolen vehicle.

Officials said they immediately disengaged from Kramer, but he continued to speed away.

Kramer was driving in a 2014 Toyota Tacoma. According to police, he collided with a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe about one mile from the attempted traffic stop.

Joe Gold, 93, was the driver of the Hyundai and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A third vehicle, a 2016 Subaru Impreza, was also hit during the crash. A 62-year-old man was driving the vehicle for a ride share service and had a 19-year-old passenger with him.

The Subaru sustained heavy front-end damage from the crash and police said they were still investigating how the Subaru was hit, Longmont Times-Call reported.

Police determined Kramer was traveling with a 36-year-old female passenger and both were taken to the hospital after the crash.

Following his release from the hospital, police said Kramer was arrested and booked into the Boulder County Jail on Oct. 29.

Kramer was charged with first-degree murder, vehicular homicide, vehicular eluding, aggravated motor vehicle theft, vehicular assault, second-degree assault, two counts of third-degree assault, driving a vehicle while license under restraint, reckless driving and failing to obey traffic control signal, officials said.
