Erika Kirk, Charlie Kirk’s widow, decided to cancel her appearance at a Turning Point USA event with Vice President JD Vance in Athens, Ga. However, Vance went ahead with his appearance. According to Andrew Kolvet, a spokesperson for the event, Erika has received “some very serious threats in her direction.” The 37-year-old has been extremely “worried” about those.

According to Fox News, Vance said that he was worried that the whole event would be canceled amid the threats. He said that he had spoken with the Secret Service about it. Speaking at the University of Georgia, the Vice President said, “I know that she did get some threats, and about two hours ago, I was a little worried we were going to have to cancel the event because Erika was not going to come.”

WSB-TV reported that Vance noted, “She was very worried about it.” Kirk was not present at the event to interview Vance. Taking the stage, spokesperson Kolvet said, “I’m going to address it right at the front, Mr. Vice President, I’m on stage here instead of our friend Erika Kirk because unfortunately she has received some very serious threats in her direction.”

He added, “It’s a terrible reflection on the state of reality and the state of the country,” noting that some critics have made “part-time jobs out of attacking Erika.”

Meanwhile, Vance, who decided to attend after discussions with the Secret Service, noted, “Obviously, these guys do a very good job.” He added, “And I said, ‘You know what? Let’s let Erika do what she needs to do for herself and her family. I’m sure Andrew will fill in, and let’s go and make this an amazing event.”

Vance added that Erika has been battling “two separate living he--s” after her husband’s assassination and the online criticism that followed. “Everybody is attacking her over everything, and they’re lying about her, and it’s one of the most disgraceful things that I’ve ever seen in public life. The people telling you that Erika wasn’t grieving her husband are full of s–t,” said the Vice President.

He also attacked the conspiracy theorists who believe that Kirk was somehow complicit in her husband’s murder. He called the claims “preposterous and so disgusting.” Vance added, “The response to Charlie Kirk getting assassinated by a left-wing furry lover should have been, let’s go after left-wing violence and terrorism.”

“If you’re going after Erika Kirk and not the people who are trying to destroy the United States of America, you’re part of the problem, not part of the solution,” said Vance.
