A Minnesota man was sentenced in connection with the death of his newborn daughter, who suffered horrific injuries as the result of him striking her for about five minutes, officials said.

Kristopher Dale Arlando Henderson, of Mankato, was ordered on April 4 to serve 15 years behind bars after he was convicted of second-degree murder, KSTP-TV reported.

According to court officials, on Sept. 23, 2021, Henderson, 41, and the infant’s mother brought their daughter to the hospital, where staff discovered the infant was suffering multiple serious injuries, including an intracranial hemorrhage, bruising to the face and inside her mouth as well as fractures to her ribs, both femurs, and tibia.

The following day, a detective with the Mankato Department of Public Safety detective launched an investigation into the suspected child abuse case.

The newborn died from her injuries over a month later, on Nov. 3, 2021.

Court documents obtained by KSTP-TV show the girl’s father, Henderson, attempted to blame his daughter’s fatal injuries on the family’s overweight cat.

“The 20 lb. cat that [the] father states was around the infant, is not the cause of these injuries,” noted a doctor who examined the baby girl.
