Michael Reed Hall had been in a mental-health facility since his mother was found dead on March 16, but he was arrested on Monday and faces a homicide charge, according to authorities.

Police were called to Sherri Lynn Hall’s home, and inside they found the woman on the floor, covered in what appeared to be blood, police said.

The police report stated that clothes, cleaning wipes, blankets, bandages and a mop inside the home all had blood on them, The Palm Beach Post reported.

At the scene, a medical examiner told Palm Springs police the woman had blunt-force injuries all over her body, including on her legs, head and arms.

In one of the bedrooms, officers also recovered two knives that were covered in what appeared to be blood, but investigators did not say if they were used in the woman’s killing.

The Palm Beach Post reported that neighbors say they saw Michael in the area on the morning of the fatal attack and a security camera recorded him smoking a cigarette. The neighbors also reported seeing his hands red and bleeding.

On that same morning, a clerk at a nearby convenience store asked police to do a welfare check on Michael, who was standing outside the store and appeared to be injured, The Palm Beach Post reported. When police arrived, Michael gave them a fake name and left.

Soon afterward, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office received another call saying a man, who was later identified as Michael, was “acting suspicious."

At that time, Michael was taken to a mental-health facility to be evaluated, authorities said. After his release, Palm Springs police brought him in for questioning.

While being questioned, police say that the 20-year-old confessed to killing his mother. Investigators have not disclosed any motive for the killing.

Michael is being held without bail at the Palm Beach County Jail and is ordered to have no contact with his family. Court records show the judge did not order Michael to undergo a mental-health evaluation.
