An investigation determined the two victims were standing outside a residence when an SUV started to drive past them. Someone inside the vehicle fired a gun multiple times at both victims, who were both shot before the SUV fled the area.

Police said one of the victims was 21-year-old Tyrese Morris-Cross, who suffered from life-threatening gunshot wounds, later died from his injuries, WNDU reported.

Officials said four other victims were identified during the investigation that were also targets by gunfire, but police said they are withholding their names.

After several months of the investigation, police said they found probable cause to charge 30-year-old Amond Nixon with murder, four counts of attempted murder and serious violent felon in possession of a firearm.

Nixon was incarcerated at the LaPorte County Jail on other criminal charges, so he was issued a $1 million cash bond on the new charges, police said.
