Recently, a Shelby County judge handed Antonio R. Davis, 33, to a mandatory life term in prison for the shooting death of Lakeyel Hurd. Davis was found guilty and convicted by a jury for first-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary.

According to prosecutors, on Dec. 29, 2015, officers responded to the 6000 Block of Waterstone Oak Way at Hickory Ridge area apartments. There, witnesses told investigators Davis shot through the sliding door of the apartment Hurd had been staying in with a friend temporarily.

Davis then decided to leave the apartment but took the woman’s cell phone to prevent her from calling 911.

According to News 3 Channel, Davis was tracked to a motel on Rivergate Parkway in Goodlettsville, an area outside of Nashville, Tennessee, two weeks later. The arrest culminated from the joint effort of U.S. Marshalls Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Middle Tennessee Violent Offender Task Force.

Davis is scheduled to be sentenced for the other charges in January.
