A Pennsylvania man has turned himself in after allegedly murdering his ex-girlfriend at her home while her three children were present, prosecutors said.

“This murder of Keishla Arroyo-Rodriguez, a mother of small children, is a horrific ending to a domestic violence situation,” Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said, WPVI-TV reported.

Shortly before 4 p.m on Jan. 10, Elvyn Almodovar Rodriguez, 32, allegedly walked into the Norristown apartment of his ex-girlfriend, 28-year-old Keishla Arroyo-Rodriguez, and found her showering in the bathroom, the victim’s 7-year-old daughter told police.

The daughter — whose two siblings, ages 3 and 5, reportedly were also home at the time — looked under the bathroom door after hearing several bangs and saw her mother, who had been shot in the head, down on the floor, police said.

“A young child went to open the bathroom door, could not open the door and she called her father who came over there and called police,” Norristown Police Chief Derrick Wood said, according to KYW-TV.

“Obviously, it’s a traumatic incident for her and her siblings,” Wood noted. “Three kids were there at the time so we’re making sure she gets the counseling she needs, and she’s with her father right now.”

The girl’s father later claimed to investigators that the victim told him Elvyn Rodriguez had punched her in the head shortly before she and the alleged killer broke up in December.

An autopsy determined Keishla Arroyo-Rodriguez died as the result of a gunshot wound to the head.

On Jan. 11, one day after the shooting, the suspect surrendered to police in York, a town around 90 miles from his ex-girlfriend’s apartment.

He was being held without bail on multiple charges, ranging from first-degree murder and burglary to endangering the welfare of children, according to WPVI-TV.

“If you’re a victim of domestic violence or you’re in danger, call 911,” Wood advised anyone in a similar situation. “We’ll put you with the proper agency or organization and get you the help that you need. Don’t suffer in silence.”
