In the early morning hours of October 5, 2020, Andee Wright, 30, delivered the baby while alone at her home in Tonawanda, New York, Erie County District Attorney John Flynn said, according to Spectrum Local News.

Wright’s boyfriend was out with a friend when she delivered her son. Unaware Wright had just given birth, when the boyfriend returned to their home, he saw she was in distress and phoned 911 for help.

“A short time later, they found the baby’s body in a garbage can in the basement of the home,” Flynn said. “The baby was dead.”

The District Attorney’s Office then launched in an 11-month investigation to determine if the infant was dead or alive at birth.

"It's safe to say, obviously, that I am proceeding on a murder prosecution here” and authorities “have determined that the baby was born alive," Flynn said.

According to the district attorney, Wright, who is the mother to an 8-year-old child, allegedly hit the infant in the head after she gave birth, fracturing the boy’s skull.

An autopsy showed the baby’s cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and focally penetrating trauma, the district attorney said.

Wright turned herself in on Sept. 7. She is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and was being held on $75,000 bail.

She faces between 25 years and life in prison if convicted.
