On July 30, 2020, authorities responded to the 1200 Block of Kenmore Boulevard after a report of a shooting. Eyewitnesses identified the defendant as he sped away from the crime scene in his vehicle after shots were fired, reported Akron Beacon Journal.

According to prosecutors, the 29-year-old Cisterna had gone to the residence to pick up his personal belongings. At the time, Deel had been working on his vehicle. Soon after, the defendant shot and killed the victim.

Five days later, U.S. Marshalls attached to the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force got a tip regarding the whereabouts of the defendant hiding out in a home in the town of Scio, south of Akron, Ohio. The Barberton resident was immediately arrested, and the murder weapon was found in his possession, according to WKYC.

The motive for the killing remains unclear.

Deel, whom the judge tagged a repeat offender, will be eligible for parole after serving 21 years in prison.
