A dog was left out to die in temperatures of more than 100 degrees and now a woman faces animal cruelty charges.

On May 13, deputies with the Parker County Sheriff’s Office in Texas responded to a home for an animal welfare check. When they arrived, deputies saw a dog in the backyard without food, water or shade.

Neighbors said they could hear the dog panting and called police, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies found the pup in a small, fenced area and surrounded by chicken wire and trash. The temperatures outside were also 102 degrees during the call, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials pronounced the dog dead, and the cause was heat stroke.
