Around 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 20, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched to a report of shots fired in Kingwood, Texas, according to KETV.

Detectives learned a woman was walking in the neighborhood when she heard multiple gunshots at an intersection. She then saw two black men run from the area, according to authorities.

She continued her walk and came upon an unresponsive black man lying on the sidewalk with apparent gunshot wounds, police said.

Around 11 a.m. on Sept. 22, detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in Kingwood, officials said.

With the evidence obtained from the scene, detectives arrested 17-year-old Bryan Smith, Jr. for the death of the 14-year-old male and charged him with capital murder, authorities said.

While the motive for the shooting is not known, Smith and the victim did go to the same high school and were considered friends, KETK reported.
