A tree trimming service in Tennessee allegedly attempted to take more than its fair cut after providing services to an elderly woman, law enforcement said.

According to Memphis police, the 81-year-old alleged victim entered into a contract with Cleveland Bobo, who works for Tree Tech2, WREG reported.

The woman agreed to pay Tree Tech2 a total of $7,100 for Bobo, 35, to cut down two trees in her yard last November.

According to a police affidavit, the woman could only pay the bill by credit card, but Bobo was unable to accept that form of payment, so he had an associate, Ricky Poindexter, take the money via a Square business account under the name We Do It All Trees.

After completing the work and days after accepting the credit card payment, police said, the two men returned to the woman’s home and told her the card transaction had failed.

Court documents show Poindexter’s sister then allegedly helped the elderly woman set up a PayPay account, which was used to transfer $5,500 to a Cash App account.

The alleged victim also paid the men an additional $1,000, court records show.

Police said the two scam suspects then split the Cash App money.

Bobo faces charges of theft of property and financial exploitation of an elderly or vulnerable person and was being held on a $40,000 bond.
