Decades after winning a civil lawsuit against OJ Simpson following his acquittal in a murder trial, and shortly after his death, the Goldman Family is ready to fight for the payout that he owes them, as per PEOPLE. OJ Simpson recently succumbed to his battle against cancer, and this has left questions about the settlement amount that he was supposed to pay to the families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. After Simpson was acquitted of their murder, both families filed a civil suit and secured $33.5 million in damages. According to the documents submitted in the court, the families have received $133,000, as reported by the New York Post.

David Cook who represents the Goldman family has alleged that Simpson owes his clients almost $100 million in debt. This is because the delay in payment also led to interest piling up on the original amount. It is not clear whether the $133,000 that the family claims to have received, includes the proceeds they secured after auctioning Simpson's memorabilia and gaining rights to the book "If I Did It." Cook added that his clients had a hard time getting money out of the ex-footballer, who had no intention of following through with the judgment. "He died without penance,” Cook said of Simpson. “He did not want to give a dime, a nickel to Fred, never, anything, never.” Fred is Ron's father, who kept fighting legal battles against Simpson following the murders.

The family's lawyers have tried to procure the money from Simpson's NFL pensions and trust in the past as well, but to no avail. They were granted the rights to the book that Simpson was working on and gained some money from it. That was the only headway they managed to make, in terms of pushing Simpson to make the payout. The family is now looking at hiring attorneys in Nevada, Florida, and California to “determine what can be done" after hearing of Simpson's death. They plan to understand where all of Simpson's money will go and then sue accordingly. "We need to get a lawyer or a number of lawyers who deal with this, very smart people to determine who it is or who it would be, and [start] taking depositions from people and/or finding out who they are and what information we need,” he explained. “It's a big deal.”

But the executor of Simpson's will has declared that he will ensure the Goldman family doesn't see a penny off his client's estate, as per Las Vegas Review-Journal. Reacting to Simpson's death, Fred Goldman said, “This is just a reminder for us of how long Ron has been gone, how long we have missed him and nothing more than that.” “That is the only thing that is important today. It is the pain from then until now. There is nothing today that is more important than the loss of my son and the loss of Nicole. Nothing is more important than that.”
