A doctor from California was taken into custody last month because a camera was allegedly found in his clinic's bathroom, authorities shared.

Nicholas Vanderhyde, 40, was arrested by officials after an employee in the establishment he was working in, allegedly noted a camera secretly taped to a cabinet and connected to a power bank in the bathroom, People reported.

Vanderhyde was arrested after authorities allegedly found obscene material depicting a person under 18, KTLA5 reported. The incident happened at The Joint Chiropractic located on McBean Parkway in Valencia.

The employee who found the camera shared, "It was pointed directly at the toilet, so they were definitely aiming to record people using the bathroom, people’s private parts," KTLA5 reported. The revelation left many families who visited the chiropractic clinic and employees associated with it disturbed.

Former patients claimed that the bathroom was typically used by staff and patients, many of whom were children, KTLA5 reported. They also alleged that Vanderhyde would always insist his patients to use the bathroom before their appointment.

"Knowing what I know now, I am traumatized by the disgusting violation committed against many people and families, including my own," said a victim named Alex. F, KTLA5 reported.

In July, 11 families came forward and filed a lawsuit against Vanderhyde after becoming privy to the information regarding a hidden camera in the clinic, KTLA5 reported. The lawsuit claimed that the treatment they received at the hands of Vanderhyde was not typical, and involved inappropriate touching.

"Dr. Vanderhyde was permitted to continue treating patients in his rogue fashion, including insisting on upper, inner thigh massage touching at least one patient’s vagina," reads a part of the lawsuit, People reported.

The lawsuit also alleges that The Joint knew about the accused's inappropriate practices, KTLA5 reported. "This was a chiropractor with a known history of harassment and sexual misconduct in the past and The Joint knew about this history," Janna Trolia, the attorney representing the 17 patients in the lawsuit said.

The Joint Chiropractor facility released a statement that read, "The safety of our patients and staff, and the integrity of the service we provide, are always our highest priorities," People reported.

Vanderhyde is not working in the establishment anymore, and currently is out on bail, KTLA5 reported.
