Georgia Man Handed Life Sentence for Killing Woman Who 'Unfriended' Him a Day Before Murder
A man from Georgia has been found guilty of murdering a woman in 2019, who he met on the Internet, authorities shared.
Antonio Wilson was arrested in October 2019, as a suspect in the murder of Fabiola Thomas, at her own home in Roswell, WSBTV reported.
Police received a panicked phone call in June 2019, from Thomas’ roommate who found her unresponsive in her bathtub, People reported. He informed officials that "something bad had happened to her," police said.
Officials arrived at the site and took the victim to the hospital for medical help, People reported. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Several months later a medical examiner ruled the death as homicide.
Investigators found that Thomas and Wilson had met on an app and dated each other briefly before the murder, WSBTV reported. "Ms. Thomas did everything that you would think you should do. She told her friends where she was going. She would only meet him in public places," Assistant District Attorney, Abigail Potter, shared in an interview.
Thomas wanted to break up after a while, WSBTV reported. Wilson did not take this rejection well, as implied by text messages found from the victim's side. Before her death, Thomas wrote in one of the text messages, "Keep your ring, I’m not your woman, never was, stop claiming me because I never claimed u."
The day before her murder, Thomas 'unfriended' Wilson, Senior Assistant District Attorney, Nalda Charles stated, WSBTV reported.
Charles added that after being rejected by Thomas, the suspect found where she lived and killed her by strangulation. "It was just so egregious. It was unnecessary, it didn’t have to happen. She was unarmed, defenseless, and in her home, all because she said no," Charles said to the jury in Wilson's trial.
The day after the case was declared a homicide, Wilson was arrested, People reported.
Five years after the murder, Wilson was declared guilty of malice murder after a deliberation of 30 minutes by jury, WSBTV reported.
On July 23, Wilson was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, People reported.
Myrto Charles is still heartbroken at the demise of her sister and believes she deserved better than her fate, WSBTV reported. "My sister was attacked and murdered in her home," he said. "My sister enjoyed and loved life. She had dreams and goals she wanted to accomplish, yet that all died with her when she was gasping for her last breath."
