MAN FALLS TO HIS DEATH IN AN ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE GUNFIRE IN MYRTLE BEACH HOTEL

Man perishes in the hospital after trying to jump from a hotel building and falling from the fifth floor

In his attempt to flee gunshots, 27-year-old Jorge Orellana from Hendersonville North Carolina jumped off a hotel room in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and succumbed to his injuries, as per Hendersonville Times-News. It turns out that Orellana was trying to scale the balcony to escape the gunfire but accidentally fell off before he could reach the fifth floor. He later succumbed to his injuries and there were no other casualties because of the gunshots. Myrtle Beach Police Department gave an update regarding the whole situation on social media. Their Facebook post read, "The investigation revealed a disturbance led to several shots being fired inside the room, but nobody was injured. As the participants of the disturbance were attempting to leave the room, one of the males exited through the balcony and was seen attempting to climb down the rear of the building. The male fell to the ground before reaching the fifth floor."

All the participants involved in the shootout have been identified and the firearm used by them has been confiscated by the authorities. The details of the fight have not yet been made public.

After he fell off the building, Orellana was immediately transported to the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where the man breathed his last since he had sustained "massive" upper body trauma. There is no information as to whether anyone has been charged in relation to this case and the police have asked anyone with additional information about the situation to call 843-918-1382.

Violent crime plaguing the city

With an average of two shootings a month in the city in 2023, Myrtle Beach has been plagued by violent crime and such incidents are commonplace. Economic challenges, combined with the presence of gangs and drug trafficking have reportedly contributed to this phenomenon. The rate of violent crime in the coastal city that attracts tourists is 49.31 per 1,000 people. This is higher than the state as well as the national average.
