Curtis Jack from Georgia has been sentenced to 50 years in jail, after being found guilty of attempting to murder his own 18-month-old child by adding poison to her milk bottle, as per PEOPLE. He committed the crime back in 2020 and the case was investigated by the City of South Fulton Police Department. His wife chose the method of giving breastmilk to her baby in a bottle, as she was hospitalized after giving birth. That's when Jack collected breast milk from her and laced it with antifreeze before delivering it to the child. The breast milk was administered to the child by her grandmother who was taking care of the infant while the mother recuperated.

A day after drinking the milk, the baby became "critically ill" and as soon as the hospital authorities were informed, they quickly diagnosed that she had been poisoned. They informed the police who started an investigation into the matter and also revealed that they had found some "serious injuries" on the baby's body apart from the poison in her system. Soon she was transferred to a local hospital, where further tests were done on her. The tests revealed that she had been poisoned with ethylene glycol, which is a “chemical often found in automotive antifreeze,” according to the authorities. But the baby survived and later the probe pointed in the direction of her father Jack being a suspect. He was arrested and charged with a criminal attempt to commit murder and cruelty to a child in the first degree.

Jack and the baby's mother had been in an "intimate relationship" since 2020, and both of them started dating while working together. He did not want to become a father and had asked the mother to terminate the pregnancy, but she refused to do so. After being questioned by authorities, Jack finally admitted that he had mixed the antifreeze in the breastmilk sent for the baby. His case went to trial which included testimonies from the child's mother, grandmother, law enforcement officers, and medical experts, including a demonstration of how easy it was to poison the breastmilk. All the evidence provided made the jury give a guilty verdict against Jack, after which he was sentenced to 50 years in jail. Out of his total sentence, Jack now needs to spend about 40 years in custody.

Fulton police announced the sentencing on April 11, and they expressed satisfaction at bringing justice to the baby and her family. “A special thanks to Madam Fani Willis and the Fulton County District Attorney's Office in obtaining justice for the victim and her mother,” South Fulton police wrote in a statement.
