Traumatic accidents can have devastating results on victims. Sometimes victims lose memories due to such injuries. This is what happened with Luciano D'Adamo, an Italian man, who lost 40 years of his existence when he got hit by a car in 2019, LAD Bible reported.

Luciano D'Adamo got injured in a hit-and-run accident and was immediately taken to the hospital, The Guardian reported. After a few days, he woke up and did not recognize his family members. The man's last memories were of being a 24-year-old man and leaving his Rome house in March 1980.

D'Adamo stated that he felt a violent blow and after that was welcomed with immediate darkness, The Guardian reported. The next thing he knew, he was surrounded in the hospital with a woman claiming to be his wife and a son in his 30s.

As soon as he woke up, D'Adamo wanted to call his mother, The Guardian reported. He was handed a mobile phone, which he couldn't figure out. This was not the development that shocked him the most though, since he was informed that his mother had died.

D'Adamo had no connection with this 'family', and all he remembered was that he had a 19-year-old fiancée, whom he was hoping to marry soon, The Guardian reported. Instead, he was being welcomed by a woman asserting that they had spent decades together, as a husband and wife.

Since waking up in the hospital in 2019, D'Adamo has been trying to reacclimate himself to the new times, The Guardian reported. Initially, he was taken aback by all the technological advancements that had taken place in the world. 'I still remember the amazement of traveling in a car that showed me a map of Rome on a screen, or rather the Tuttocittà as we once called it, while a voice said: "In 100 meters turn right,"' he shared. After a lot of work, he has become used to them.

D'Adamo's biggest challenge was looking at himself in the mirror. It was not easy to imagine himself as a 68-year-old man with grey hair when just some time ago he was living the life of a healthy and charming 24-year-old man.

Five years later, D'Adamo is working in a school as a caretaker and regularly meeting with doctors to make sense of his new reality. The man has also worked on his relationship with his newfound family members and is slowly but surely making progress in his personal life.
