PRE-MED STUDENT STABS MOTHER 70 TIMES BECAUSE HE WAS ANGRY; CALLS 911 TO CONFESS
A pre-med student named Emmanuel “Manny” Espinoza was recently taken into custody by the Polk County Sheriff's Office after confessing to stabbing his mother at her Florida home. The Sheriff's office shared the updates about the case in a press conference and revealed that the murder was not a spur-of-the-moment decision but was premeditated on Manny's part. In his statement, Manny talked about a general dislike towards his mother but did not specify a particular situation that caused the hatred. The murder was on his mind for a long time and he chose the 6th of April, to finally execute his plan. He has been charged with first-degree murder as well as evidence tampering and will soon be presented in court.
Manny was enrolled as a pre-med at the University of Florida when the murders took place, as per PEOPLE. It was his mother Elvia who invited him to meet, as she had not seen him for a long time. Although the initial plan involved her visiting him on campus, Manny changed it citing the excuse that he also wanted to drop by and see his grandfather before attending an event in the area. The County Sheriff Grady Judd described how doorcam footage showed Manny knocking on the door while hiding a knife, and stabbed his mother more than 70 times as soon as she let him in.
The authorities have also acquired doorcam footage from the night of the murder. At 2 pm Manny can be seen arriving with a knife in hand. He stabbed his mother and cut himself in the process. After seeing his wound he “wanted to ask his mom for the Neosporin … but he noticed she was dead," Judd added. After this planned crime, Manny's next step was to call 911 and confess the crime. He told the dispatcher in a frank tone, "I stabbed my mom." His behavior regarding the whole thing baffled the investigators, since Manny doesn't have a history of mental illness.
Manny was the youngest of three siblings and his mother Elvia was working as a second-grade teacher at Ben Hill Griffin Elementary School in Frostproof. He allegedly murdered her because she got on her nerves. The Sheriff called the case one of the most strange murders he and his colleagues have ever handled in their career. “It is incomprehensible as to what happened that day,” he shared. They did not find any drugs in Manny's system nor was there any sign of psychological distress.
In his statements, Manny shared that he had been "angry" with his mother for a long time, but did not reveal any particular incident or action by his mother that might have caused his animosity, despite being asked repeatedly. Moreover, he added a bewildering remark that his relationship with his mother was, “' An 8 out of 10, we get along, but … I wanted to do this for some time but I didn't have the nerve to do it, so I just made up my mind that today was the day.’ ”
