Texas Cab Driver Accused of Fatally Shooting Woman Claims His 'Gun Accidentally Went Off': Affidavit
A Texas man allegedly killed a woman in his car while quarreling with her, police claimed.
Yons Alshabli, 32, was taken into custody by authorities as a suspect in the murder of Crystal Daniels, 41, in Dallas, The Independent reported.
Daniels' dead body was found in the parking lot of a Dallas strip mall on July 9, according to the outlet.
On July 9, police responded to a shooting call on the 11500 block of Plano Road, Dallas News reported. Officers reached the scene and discovered the body of a woman in a parking lot who had been shot. The woman was announced dead on the scene and later identified as Daniels.
Investigators retrieved surveillance footage from two nearby businesses and located a sedan at the scene of crime during the shooting, according to an arrest warrant affidavit, obtained by Dallas News. A witness also came forward who shared with the authorities that he heard two gunshots.
Police detained the sedan's alleged driver, Alshabli, at his Lake Highlands apartment complex, Dallas News reported. Later he was jailed on a murder charge.
Initially, Alshabli allegedly told the police that his car had been stolen, Dallas News reported. Later, the man changed his story and stated that he picked up Daniels intending to allegedly have sex in exchange for money, according to police.
He was reportedly driving to a nearby hotel with the woman and offered to pay her $70, authorities alleged. While the pair were in the car, he became concerned because of a truck he believed was following them, according to the affidavit, Dallas News reported.
Alshabli allegedly told the police that he handed over a $10 bill to Daniels and asked her to get down. The pair then got into an argument when Daniels refused, and Alshabli pulled out a gun, the affidavit claims. During the struggle, the gun "accidentally went off", hitting Daniels in the head, according to the affidavit.
Investigators found a $10 bill in Daniels' hand when her body was found, Fox4 reported.
Alshabli was being held on a $1 million bond, The Independent reported.
