A 2-year-old boy was found home alone in Florida and now the parents have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect, according to authorities.

On April 22, officers responded to a call regarding a 2-year-old child being left by himself in a home, according to the Fort Walton Beach Police Department.

Once at the residence, officers saw the child “slapping the window and appearing dirty with multiple flies on him,” officials said.

Police tried to make contact with anyone in the home, but failed. Officers eventually made their way into the home, evaluated the child and immediately called EMS to the scene, according to officials.

The child was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was admitted for further treatment, police said.

While investigating the home, police said they found “feces on the walls, mounds of soiled diapers, an extreme amount of insect activity and the bedroom door of the room was locked from the outside.”

The child’s parents were identified as Tyler Piringer and Diamond Atkinson, both 21. Police said the parents reportedly returned home from shopping about six hours after officers first arrived.

Piringer and Atkinson were taken into custody and booked into the Okaloosa County Jail, police said.

They were charged with aggravated child abuse and child neglect and released on $10,000 bond the following day.
