3 Former Child Stars Who Went Behind Bars for Major Legal Troubles

Lindsay Lohan has her share of scandals.
Child actors in Hollywood often experience stardom at an early age. While that life may appear glamorous from the outside, it can create serious mental and emotional challenges for young performers. Although many child actors enjoy successful careers, others face intense pressure, struggle with substance abuse or are affected by constant public attention.
However, in some cases, matters escalate when former child actors become involved in criminal activity. Several have been jailed or charged with offenses ranging from minor crimes to serious felonies on multiple occasions. Some remained major public figures into adulthood. They began their careers as child stars, and that early fame often played a role in shaping their personal lives.
Below, we discuss the troubled child actors who have been behind bars for crimes no one thought of. The list includes some household names who are globally celebrated for their performances and talents.
Shia LeBeouf
Actor Shia LeBeouf has been arrested on multiple occasions for his petty crimes
Shia LaBeouf, who is known for his intense roles and talent in films, started his career as a child, starring in the Disney show “Even Stevens.” At multiple instances, he has spoken about his struggles of being a celebrity at an early age.
Although known for blockbuster movies, Shia LaBeouf has had multiple encounters with law enforcement. He was arrested on several occasions for disorderly conduct, public intoxication-related incidents, and disputes involving police intervention.
In 2017, LeBeouf was arrested in Georgia and charged with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He was released after a short detention and later entered legal agreements requiring probation compliance.
As for a recent incident, the actor was charged in February 2026 for alleged battery, punching two men, and causing chaos at a bar. Moreover, he has also been accused of being an abusive partner. His ex-partner, singer FKA twigs, in an interview earlier, said that LeBeouf knowingly exposed her to a sexually transmitted infection, attempted to strangle her, and slammed her against a car.

Second on the list is Lindsay Lohan, who is famously known for being a Disney star. It’s no surprise that fame came early to “The Parent Trap” child actress, and now she has transformed into one of the most recognisable actresses through films like “Mean Girls” and “Freaky Friday.” Lohan’s legal issues began in the mid-2000s. She faced multiple arrests related to driving incidents, probation violations, and substance-related charges. Her most serious consequence happened in 2010 when she was sentenced to jail for violating terms tied to earlier DUI cases.
She served a short jail term and also spent time in court-ordered rehabilitation programs. She has moved in and out of court supervision for several years.
As of recent times, she has stayed clear of any criminal charges and scandals, which may involve the police. However, her earlier struggles clearly showcase how a child star could be a subject of intense public scrutiny.
Bug Hall
Little Rascals star was recently arrested in Ohio
Another former child actor who has been a part of early fame and later legal controversies is Bug Hall. He is best known for the show “The Little Rascals.” Although he left the showbiz world in 2020, he was also arrested in the same year for inhaling air duster and was charged with misdemeanour possession to inhale a volatile chemical. He was later released on a $1500 bond.
As of present, the former star was charged in April 2026 with failing to appear in court in Ohio over a 2024 traffic citation for not having liability insurance.
Across these cases, there is a familiar pattern, which is how early popularity brought public attention. Later years were mainly marked by struggles that ended up in court records or brief detentions.
