Chicago Couple Arrested in Connection With 5-Year-Old Granddaughter’s Death

A Chicago grandfather and his wife have been charged in connection with the murder of his five-year-old granddaughter, according to authorities.
Around 10:50 p.m. on July 14, officers and paramedics responded to a home located in the Chicago suburb of Park Forest for an unresponsive five-year-old girl, identified as Jada Moore, according to the Park Forest Police Department.
The girl’s grandfather, 62-year-old Klent Elwoods, called 911, admitted to abusing Jada and told dispatchers she was unresponsive, officials said.
Once at the scene, first responders immediately started performing CPR and Jada was taken to a local hospital.
Officers arrested Elwoods and his wife, 57-year-old Lisa Jones, and the couple was transported to Park Forest Police Department for further investigation.
Jada was airlifted to Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago, but she passed away around 9 a.m. on July 15, authorities said.

According to authorities, Jada showed signs of recent physical abuse and both Elwoods and Jones admitted to physically abusing Jada during their interviews.
On July 16, detectives presented the evidence to the Cook County State’s Attorney Office, who approved the charge of first-degree murder against both Elwoods and Jones.
