95-Year-Old Woman Dies Following Major Irvine Intersection Collision

Irvine police investigates after a 95-year-old woman is killed in a car crash
According to police, a 95-year-old woman died after a three-vehicle crash on May 25 morning at a busy Irvine intersection.
The accident happened shortly after 9 a.m. at Irvine Center Drive and Valley Oak, according to the Irvine Police Department. Officers and crews from the Orange County Fire Authority responded to the scene.
Investigators said the woman was driving a Toyota RAV4 westbound on Irvine Center Drive when she entered the intersection against a red light. Meanwhile, a Dodge Ram and a Tesla Model 3 were traveling northbound on Valley Oak with a green signal when the crash occurred.
Police said the Toyota collided with the Dodge in the intersection. The force of the impact pushed the Dodge into the Tesla, which was traveling to the left of the pickup truck.
The 95-year-old driver suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital. The Orange County Sheriff’s Coroner later informed police that she had died from her injuries.
Her identity has not been released pending notification of family members.
Investigation Is Currently Underway

The Irvine Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the investigation. Officials have not reported whether drugs, alcohol, or speed played a role in the collision.
According to the police, the drivers of the Dodge and Tesla remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and their conditions were not immediately released.
Reportedly, traffic in the area was disrupted for some hours as investigators examined the crash scene and cleared damaged vehicles from the roadway.
Video from the scene also showed officers cordoning off the intersection near the Oak Creek Golf Club area.
Police Is Looking For Witnesses

Police have not announced whether any citations or charges will be filed as the investigation remains ongoing.
Car accidents and crashes have become common, with multiple cases being registered on a regular basis. The intersection of Irvine Center Drive and Valley Oak is another heavily traveled area near businesses and residential communities in Irvine.
A user on the Irvine Police Department’s Instagram post reacted to the news, writing, “This is awful to hear. There needs to be an age that people are not allowed to drive. My father gave me his keys at least 10 years ago at 76. He didn’t feel he should be behind the wheel any longer.”
