How ABC Fumbled The Bachelorette Season With Taylor Frankie Paul — Was The Network Really Unaware Of Her Controversies

ABC's controversial Taylor Frankie Paul casting
ABC had the most dramatic The Bachelorette season ever, but sadly, it will never air. The network had to pull the show following multiple warnings about casting Taylor Frankie Paul. She was far from the show’s previous squeaky-clean Christian leads. With three young children from two different fathers, Paul is not exactly the right choice for the famous show.
ABC took a bold step indeed. In a press release, Disney said, “As a single mother of three, Paul shares the highs and lows of her life with unfiltered candor.” They added, “With humor, resilience, and a fearless openness, she inspires others to embrace life’s chaos and own their story.”
Did ABC Choose Paul Based On Her Social Media Fame, While Ignoring Warnings

ABC chose her, knowing that she would not follow all the rules. Yet the question remains, was this risk really necessary for the reputed network?
Paul, who rose to fame through The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, wasn’t ultimately a good choice for ABC, as executives faced mounting warnings after allegations involving domestic violence and behind-the-scenes concerns.
The real question is, how did the network miss all the signs, or did they willfully ignore them till it was too late? NBC News reported that on March 7, ABC and Disney executives had a Zoom meeting with the cast members from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
Several of the cast members expressed concerns about Paul’s behavior and the domestic violence allegations involving her former partner, Dakota Mortensen. Many questioned whether the network fully understood the seriousness of the situation before casting her.
Critics Claim ABC Completely Ignored Repeated Warnings About Paul’s Casting
ABC faces criticism for casting Paul amid domestic dispute allegations
According to reports, ABC completely ignored the warnings and went ahead with promoting Paul’s appearance on The Bachelorette. There was no prompt investigation into the allegations. A Reddit post accused Disney executive Rob Mills of saying, “I don’t know a lot, nor do I want to know too much.”
Critics argued that ABC had access to enough information while casting her. Her turbulent past has also been part of the Hulu series in which she starred. In addition, her run-ins with the law had also been public knowledge. In 2023, she was arrested over a domestic dispute with Mortensen. The charges were later dropped.
The criticism intensified after the domestic violence allegations resurfaced. ABC had to pause the release of her season and then eventually canceled it. Experts believe that the process of relying on her social media fame, the network failed to recognize the risk that came with Paul’s casting in The Bachelorette.
