A man is accused of murdering his girlfriend in Dallas after she returned from getting an abortion in Colorado, police claim.

Surveillance video shows that on May 10, Gabriella Gonzalez, 26, was with her 22-year-old boyfriend, Harold Thompson, in a parking lot when he attempted to put her into a chokehold, The Houston Chronicle reported, citing an arrest affidavit.

Police said Gonzalez was able to shrug off Thompson and keep walking, but he allegedly drew a weapon and fatally shot her in the head and then fired multiple rounds at her after she collapsed.

“It is believed that the suspect was the father of the child,” the affidavit states, according to the outlet. “The suspect did not want [Gonzalez] to get an abortion.”

Police said Gonzalez had just returned from a trip to Colorado for the procedure. Having an abortion after about six weeks of pregnancy is banned in most circumstances under Texas law.

Thompson was booked into the Dallas County jail on charges of murder, and assault of a family/household member/impeding breath or circulation, Dallas County jail records show.

The Houston Chronicle reported an affidavit claims Thompson had previously been accused of choking a female family member in March and “beat her up multiple times throughout the entirety of their relationship.”

It’s unclear if the affidavit was referring to Gonzalez, but the document states Thompson told police the family member was pregnant with his child at the time.

The affidavit notes the woman told officers “that she is scared of the suspect because he had made threats to harm her family and her children.”
