Officers from the Huntsville Police Department responded to a report of an infant not breathing. Police were called to the 11000 block of Memorial Parkway around 1 p.m. on April 22, according to Augusta, Georgia, Fox affiliate WFXG.
Upon arriving at the location, emergency medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures before transporting the child to a nearby hospital. She was pronounced dead shortly after she arrived at the facility.
A preliminary investigation by authorities determined that Ah-Nee, the father of the victim, was present with the infant when she stopped breathing. His presence at the time prompted the Huntsville Police Department’s Major Crime Unit to open an investigation into the case. Detectives then immediately requested an autopsy of the infant.
The autopsy report later released evidence of foul play. Madison County Coroner Dr. Tyler Berryhill determined the cause of death was “complications of traumatic internal injuries,” according to the media reports of local NBC affiliate WAFF.
Following an interview with Ah-Hee, the investigators determined that there was probable cause to request an arrest warrant for the probable cause domestic violence murder charge. Following the death of the 4-month-old, the mother of the victim, identified as Molly McKelvey, took her own life the following morning, the family members told WAFF.
Molly’s older brother, named Kristian McKelvey, told the authorities investigating the case that he had no words to describe how the tragedy would affect him. “She was the happiest baby I have ever seen,” he said to Lotus. “I won’t be able to see her grow old,” he added. “She was a really awesome little sister,” he said.
Surviving family members started a GoFundMe for the infant and her mother, saying that the unexpected deaths have left them “heartbroken and struggling to cope with the emotional and financial challenges that come with saying goodbye to loved ones.”
