On Feb. 16, Reuters reported that Navalny fell ill after a walk at the "Polar Wolf" Arctic penal colony, where he was serving a 30-year sentence on charges of extremism. He lost consciousness shortly afterward, prompting medical intervention.

Despite efforts to resuscitate him, Navalny did not respond positively, the prison service stated, with the cause of death yet to be determined.

Speculations abound regarding Navalny's demise, with some pointing fingers at President Putin. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Putin was informed of Navalny's death and that the prison service would conduct a review as per standard procedure.

However, Navalny's spokeswoman has not confirmed his passing, urging caution until further information is obtained.

Despite his imprisonment, Navalny continued to defy the Kremlin, proposing innovative forms of protest, such as coordinating a nationwide vote against Putin's regime.

Navalny, who had previously survived a nerve agent poisoning allegedly orchestrated by the Kremlin, remained steadfast in his criticism of the Russian government until his final days. His last social media post, a Valentine's Day tribute to his wife, reflected his enduring spirit amidst adversity.

The passing of Alexei Navalny marks the end of a promising figure in Russian politics, leaving behind a legacy of resistance and defiance against authoritarianism.
