A 22-year-old man, identified as Christian Isaiah Randall, was reportedly street racing against another driver when he crashed into another vehicle in Tucson, Arizona. Randall, who was driving the Hyundai Genesis, was taken into custody at the scene. However, a 3-year-old child who was in the other car was seriously injured and later pronounced dead at the hospital. The child's mother, who was nine months pregnant, was also injured in the crash and is still recovering, according to a GoFundMe page. She and the toddler were the only occupants in the car at the time of the crash.
Chilling photos from the scene of the crash showed the family’s Camry split in half. The car seat that Anna was strapped into was still intact, while the mother's and the daughter’s belongings were scattered across the roadway, according to KVOA.
Randall was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder, two counts of endangerment, and two counts of aggravated assault. Randall is currently being held on a $500,000 bond at the Pima County Adult Detention Center, according to reports.
Investigators said excessive speed by Randal and another vehicle caused the fatal crash, resulting in one death and injury to another person. Authorities said the second vehicle, which was also speeding alongside Randall, fled the scene before officers arrived.
The victim’s family said thrill-seeking drivers were “street racing,” according to the GoFundMe page. The tragic incident claimed the life of a young child who was travelling with her mother.
The family of the 3-year-old remembered the toddler as a “bright, joyful, and loving little girl who brought so much happiness to everyone around her.”
“Her laughter, her curiosity, and her light will never be forgotten,” the fundraiser said.
