A teenager who was reported missing on May 15, 1994 has surprisingly been found alive more than three decades later. Christina "Tina" Marie Plante was 13 years old when she vanished from Star Valley, Arizona.
While her family remained worried for her and the authorities launched an extensive investigation into her disappearance, Plante built a new life for herself. Now 45 years old, she lives happily with her husband in Springfield, Missouri, which is over 1,100 miles from Star Valley.
Gila County Sheriff’s Office Announced the Cold Case Was Finally Solved
Gila County Sheriff’s office announced the Cold Case was finally solved.
In the first week of April, the Gila County Sheriff’s Office announced that the cold case of Plante’s disappearance had finally been solved, as she was located 32 years after going missing. She had been living with her uncle and aunt as a teenager and was last seen on May 15, 1994. Plante told her relatives she was going to a nearby stable to check up on her horse.
However, she never returned home. The Gila County Sheriff’s Office then handled the case, and Plante’s name was entered into national databases of missing children. Investigators distributed flyers across multiple states, and her family promised a $10,000 reward to anyone who brought her back.
Years passed without any trace of Plante, and the case went cold. Investigators revisited it occasionally. It has now come to light that Plante left her home voluntarily. After leaving Star Valley, she graduated from Missouri State University with a degree in psychology. Meanwhile, she got married and had three sons.
All these years, the Gila County Sheriff’s Office once again looked into the case. Detectives used modern investigative techniques to find new leads, which led them to a 45-year-old woman living in Missouri under a different name. When Gila County sheriff’s deputy Jamie Garrett contacted her through a call, the woman admitted that she was Plante.
However, she has left her past behind and is happy where she is. Garrett spoke about the development in an interview with NewsNation and said, “I guess she wasn’t happy with where she was living and who she was living with, and she ran away.”
Even Garrett agreed she was shocked by the case, “I was dumbfounded. I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh. Okay, so you ran away.’ I told her … ‘You know, we were under the impression that somebody kidnapped you. It was deemed a criminal offense.’”

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office has said they are not revealing more details about the woman to protect her privacy. However, former Gila County sheriff’s deputy Terry Hudgens, who investigated the case in 1994, has come up with some interesting facts.
In an interview with NBC News, Hudgens disclosed that Plante’s parents were involved in a custody battle for her. While her father had her custody, she wanted to live with her mother. Hence, she decided to meet her mother while heading to the horse stable, and the two flew out of Arizona to start afresh.
Today, Plante has no qualms about running away from her old life. “She said that was a long time ago, that was an old life. She’s in her adult life. She has her family now. That’s not something she even thinks about,” Garrett highlighted.
