Police never knew what happened in this cold case from 1995. Now there’s been an arrest.

Authorities in Monterey County, California, charged a man with first-degree murder in a cold case dating back a quarter of a century.

Anthony Martezz Randall, 49, is accused of killing Lloyd Joseph Perkins, 22, on Sept. 21, 1995. Randall was arrested Monday and booked into the Monterey County Jail.

The prosecution statement did not say what information led to the arrest, but it noted that the investigation is ongoing.

Seaside Deputy Chief Nick Borges first met Gloria Perkins, the victim’s mother, back in 2009. He was investigating a cold case from 1969 that involved a case from the same area.

She looked very apprehensive to speak to me back in 2009 and at some point, she just interrupted me and said, ‘What about my son?’ ” Borges told the Monterey Herald.

She told him at the time that her son was shot to death in 1995 and no one had been arrested.

“I told her I don’t know how long I’m going to be a detective but I promise you I’ll never forget this and I’ll do everything in my power as long as I work here to make sure we keep eyes on this,” Borges said to the Monterey Herald.

Borges credited the Monterey County Cold Case Task Force, led by the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, in helping solve the cold case.
