A store in Brooklyn was recently set ablaze by a suspect who had a history of arrests. On Sunday, the FDNY was alerted to the fire, and firefighters were immediately dispatched to contain the flames.

Isidro Aquino, the suspect, allegedly hurled a Molotov cocktail at the store. He fled the scene. Authorities have confirmed that one firefighter was injured during the incident.

A spokesperson from the police department revealed the details of the fire. The suspect started the massive fire on Sunday at around 1:45 p.m., inside a store on Fort Hamilton Parkway.

The flames engulfed a clothing store, and billows of smoke were seen erupting from a next-door e-bikes factory. FDNY Assistant Chief Michael Meyers said heavy smoke was pushing out of the store’s doors.

He added, “It wound up not being there [but] in the commercial occupancy next door. It wound up being large amounts of stock that were on fire. Fire began to burn through that stock, burn up through the floor, and the fire eventually extended up through the building and through the roof.”

Responding to the three-alarm fire, officials dispatched 92 fire and EMS units. About 200 firefighters responded to the scene. Although one firefighter was injured while trying to contain the fire, no other civilian injuries were reported.

The 39-year-old suspect in the fire initially fled the scene. Officials later arrested him on charges of public intoxication. He was taken to a local hospital, from which he was later discharged.

Aquino, after his release, returned to the storefront he had set ablaze. It was there that officials arrested him for the arson. In addition to starting the fire, Aquino was also charged with burglary and unlawful entry with intent to commit a crime.

The police later revealed that the culprit had entered the premises of the building using a back door. He even had to rummage through a pile of cardboard boxes to proceed with his plans of setting the place ablaze. However, the cops were still not able to fathom the reason why he chose to commit arson against the store.

Arsonist Has A History Of Crimes

The FDNY, during their background research of the arsonist, found that he already had an existing record of crimes. Back in April 2017, he was arrested for punching a 31-year-old man. He even stole the victim’s jacket before fleeing the scene.

Additionally, the other record of crimes in the name of Isidro Aquino includes multiple attempts at criminal trespassing, criminal possession of weapons, drug possession and theft of service. All of his existing crimes trace back to the year 2011.
