Versa Mae Simmons charged in connection with the death of an infant at an Alabama daycare, officials said.

A daycare worker in Alabama has been arrested in connection with the death of an infant at the facility where she worked, according to authorities.

On the afternoon of March 25, medics were called to Tender Years in Demopolis regarding an unresponsive infant, Demopolis Police Chief Rex Flowers told WSFA.

Once at the scene, medics administered CPR. The infant was then transported to Whitfield Memorial Hospital, where the child was pronounced dead, officials said.

The infant’s body was sent to the state lab for an autopsy.

Investigators obtained video footage from the facility, as well as conducted interviews with other employees.

On March 29, a murder warrant was obtained and 68-year-old Versa Mae Simmons was arrested, authorities said.

She was awaiting arraignment at the Marengo County Detention Center.

Officials said neither the cause of death nor other information has been released due to the ongoing investigation. The baby’s name has also not been released.
