Man faces murder charge after 2-month-old baby dies from injuries, investigators say

A 2-month-old baby died from injuries she suffered while being abused in New Jersey, prosecutors said. Now, a man faces a murder charge and the victim's mom is accused of endangering a child.

Around 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 23, a 911 call came in from a resident of an apartment complex in North Arlington, New Jersey and reported their 2-month-old daughter was not breathing, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office stated.

The baby was taken to the Hackensack University Medical Center and medical personnel at the hospital contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit after they found numerous injuries on the child.

According to authorities, an investigation revealed that 27-year-old Aaron Medrano was the person that caused the injuries to the child.

On Dec. 30, Medrano was arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child, police said. He was booked into the Bergen County Jail, but was released.

On the same day, 25-year-old Patricia Artese was arrested and charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, officials said. She was released ahead of her first appearance in court.

On Jan. 5, the baby girl died from her injuries, authorities said.

On Jan. 11, Medrano was arrested again and charged with first-degree murder, officials said. He was booked back into the Bergen County Jail and remains there pending his first court appearance.
