Investigators working on a new TV series in Wales have discovered footprints believed to be made by the mystical creature, Bigfoot.

Knewz.com reported that the tracks, measuring 16 inches in length, were found in an area of woodland near Caerphilly.

This discovery is one among a few to fuel speculations among enthusiasts about the creatures lurking in Wales.

The researchers, who made the discovery, also stumbled upon a primitive shelter in close proximity to the footprints, The Daily Star reports.

“It could possibly be a Sasquatch footprint. The toes are clear, but I don't see a midtarsal break,” said Canadian Bigfoot researcher Jason Kenzie, per The Daily Star.

“The midtarsal break is an anatomical feature of the feet believed to be unique to Sasquatch, which is sometimes visible in its tracks.”

“Unfortunately, this evidence is inconclusive because nobody saw what made the footprints, but based on the size alone, it does look closer to an unknown creature than a typical human.”

This is not the first time the possibility of Bigfoot residing in Wales has been explored. Scientists at SGS, a leading DNA testing company, recently analyzed soil samples submitted by a 14-year-old explorer and enthusiast, Daniel Barnett, who was searching for evidence of the legendary creature.

The samples received by the company consisted of soil with small parts of leaf litter collected from tracks believed to be made by Bigfoot.

Testing would identify DNA traces of gray squirrels, common pheasants, and various large mammals including roe deer, wild boar, European badger and humans – all of which could have contributed to the tracks in question.

The closest thing in the way of an explanation for the traces detected by Barnett was from the family Cercopithecidae, which includes old-world apes.

SGS notes that while the results did not confirm the existence of Bigfoot, they did provide valuable insights into the local ecosystem using "Environmental DNA" analysis.

Prior to Barnett’s investigation, a man in 2016 claimed to have spotted a hairy beast near Caerphilly Mountain and allegedly even managed to capture footage of the encounter.

Following this, the research team behind the investigation made a Freedom of Information request to the North Wales Police earlier in 2021.

The request sought details of any police reports mentioning terms like “bigfoot,” “sasquatch,” “yeti,” “ape figure,” “bear-like,” or “wildman.” However, the researchers allege that the police declined to fulfill their request citing time constraints.

No confirmed scientific evidence has come to light since the advent of the concept 65 years ago, but public fascination with this creature continues to flourish.

While Darren Naish, a paleontologist, dubs it a “manifestation of a human-wide cultural concept, not a zoological reality,” The Smithsonian notes “the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence either.”
