After a violent, month-long crime spree, police announced an 11-year-old boy in New Mexico has been arrested in connection with the case.
According to KRQE, the boy allegedly may have been part of a national criminal group of minors known as the “Kia Boys.”
The group reportedly is known to take Kias because of the ease of stealing the vehicles.
“I am grateful that we took this young suspect into custody without our officers having to use force,” Albuquerque Police Department Chief Harold Medina said in a statement after the child's recent arrest. “Despite his age, this suspect is considered very dangerous because of his use of a firearm and his escalating violence.”
The juvenile is facing several charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy, shooting at or from a motor vehicle, shooting into an occupied dwelling, aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a weapon by a minor, non-residential burglary, criminal damage to property over $1,000, and conspiracy to commit a fourth-degree felony, NBC News reported.
Since the arrest, police released a timeline of the crime spree, which started on May 5 with a vehicle being stolen.
