Driver ran down, killed bicyclist after dispute, California cops say

A California man is accused of hitting and killing a bicyclist with his car after a dispute, police said.

Riverside police responded to reports of a traffic collision around 12:30 p.m. on July 29.

Police say a man, who was on a bicycle traveling along Market Street when he had a brief interaction with a man driving a black Ford F-250 truck. The driver reportedly made U-turn and struck the victim, causing serious injury, according to the Riverside Police.

Paramedics with the Riverside Fire Department responded and took the victim to a local hospital where he was in grave condition. Officials said 46-year-old Benedicto Solanga, of Riverside, died a few days later.

Police found the suspect's vehicle parked in the 3200 block of Iowa Avenue later that evening. But, the driver was not around, according to police.

Detectives identified the suspect as Sergio Reynaldo Gutierrez, 31-years-old of Riverside. They also determined that he intentionally struck Solanga with his truck after the interaction, according to Riverside police.

Police found Gutierrez on Aug. 17 and arrested him. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for murder and is currently being held $1 million bail.
