Police say they found almost $40,000 in cash hidden in bathrooms.

Tens of thousands of dollars has been found in a couple of bathrooms around a city in Ohio, and the money mystery has left authorities scratching their heads.
According to the Marysville Police Division, the money was discovered in publicly accessible bathrooms throughout the area.
Capt. Nate Sachs told WAVY that more than $20,000 was located at the end of last month in a bathroom at the Avalon Theater. Less than a week later, on May 2, officers found more than $10,000 in a bathroom at a Kentucky Fried Chicken.
“They were hidden in a way that you would have to know where to look to find them," Sachs said. "Wasn’t like you walk in and they were behind a trash can or anything like that. It was hidden.”
Police said that employees at both businesses found the cash.
“Truly bizarre. Just weird, especially two times in one week in our town,” Sachs noted. “There’s disbelief. It’s disbelief, and honestly, [the businesses are] just curious as to why the money would be there in the first place.”

Authorities are trying to determine where the cash came from, who put it in the bathrooms and why.

“We’re looking at the avenues that they’re probably connected,” said Sachs, who has never encountered a case like this during his 18-year career. “At this point with an open investigation, we have not linked it up yet. But anything’s possible at this point. We’re just looking at everything.”
