Once officers arrived at the scene, they located a woman shot to death inside a vehicle in a driveway.
Police initially said the shooting was targeted and no one was in custody, WGN-TV reported.
Investigators determined 35-year-old Seferino Calihua-Rodriguez was previously in a relationship with the victim and he became upset when it ended.
According to authorities, Calihua-Rodriguez allegedly hired Misael Chavarin-Plazola, 26, to kill the ex-girlfriend.
