Authorities responded to a child abandonment call in the Castlewoods Subdivision on May 10 at 6:47 p.m. The two female children were dressed identically, wearing pink shirts with white bows, paired with pink and white skirts. The authorities could not confirm if they were twins.

Meanwhile, deputies spent hours combing the entire neighborhood trying to locate the parents of the two abandoned girls. However, they were unsuccessful, as a result of which the kids were taken into custody by the Child Protective Services.

History Of Child Abandonment In Rankin County

Rankin County, over the past few years, has noted multiple incidents of abandoned children. For instance, back in 2016, parents who stood accused of forsaking three of their kids under the age of 18 close to a highway. The minors were aged between 3 and 10 years old.

Eyewitnesses later revealed to the cops that the alleged parents simply left their kids and zoomed away in their vehicle on the highway. The kids simply wandered around the roadside for an hour before help arrived.

When the parents were contacted, the police demanded they return to the scene immediately. The couple refused, resulting in the authorities getting in touch with the paternal grandparents. The three children were placed in the custody of their elderly family members. Reports revealed that the three were unharmed and required no medical attention.

The parents, Keyundra Charon Battle Peels and Quincy Montanna, were declared wanted by the authorities. They were charged with child abandonment and desertion by the Rankin County Sheriff. If convicted in such cases, these actions could lead the parents to be jailed for approximately 17 years.
