3-year-old, 5-year-old killed by father in murder-suicide, Michigan police say

A father in Michigan killed his two young children in a murder-suicide, police say. 

On April 13, police went to a home in the Lansing, Michigan, area, where they found the scene. 

Joseph Lechleitner, 47, shot and killed his daughter Vivian Zwick, 5. Vivian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a report by MLive.

Anson Zwick, 3, was rushed to the hospital but later died, according to the news group. Both children were shot. 

Police have not released a motive for the father's alleged actions. 

“We are so sorry for the surviving family,” Eaton County Sheriff Tom Reich told MLive in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to them.”

Neighbor Karlie Carter told the Lansing State Journal that the children lived with their mom and Lechleitner came to visit monthly. Carter said Vivian was always positive. 

“Super great family, and they were always outside doing stuff,” Carter told the newspaper.
