Crime Gone Wrong? Ex-FBI Agent Weighs In on Nancy Guthrie Case

Savannah Guthrie's mom is still missing
Ten days after Nancy Guthrie went missing, a law enforcement expert is now suggesting that the abduction may not have been planned but stemmed from a home invasion that escalated out of control.
A former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) supervisory special agent, Rob Chadwick, said those involved with the alleged abduction may not have expected the case to gain widespread media attention.
“The facts of what I see available to use right now are more in line with a potential crime-gone-wrong,” Chadwick said, speaking on the “Will Cain Show” on February 10. “It could’ve been targeted, could have been random – we don’t know. But we don’t see a traditional kidnapping or designed kidnapping for ransom,” the ex-FBI agent added, according to Fox News.
Chadwick also said on the show that abductors who seek quick money typically avoid drawing intense media attention. “If someone were truly invested in trying to recover money for this case, they’re going about it in a very, very different way,” he said.
He added that the people involved in the ransom demands may not be those who carried out the crime inside Guthrie’s Tucson, Ariz., home.
Savannah Guthrie Posts Another Video Plea
On February 10, Savannah Guthrie, host of NBC's Today, shared another video on Instagram discussing her mother’s abduction. This time she did not address the abductors but urged followers to report relevant information to authorities.
“I wanted to just share a few thoughts as we enter into another week of this nightmare,” she said in the video. “I want to thank you all for the prayers and love that we have felt including our mom. We believe that she is somehow feeling these prayers and God is lifting her even in this moment, in this darkest place.”
Savannah Guthrie said she believes her mother is alive. “We believe our mom is still out there. We need your help. Law enforcement is working tirelessly to bring her home. I am asking you to report to law enforcement any strange things that you notice immediately. We are in an hour of desperation,” she said in the video.

Body Language Expert decodes Savannah’s video
Savannah Guthrie appeared visibly strained, with clear signs of “exasperation and desperation”, according to body language expert Susan Constantine.
Constantine pointed to “deep inhales” and moments of “overwhelming” emotion in the plea video. She also told Fox News Digital that Guthrie “remains strong in words and faith,” but added that “the deep signs” suggest she is “grasping to hang on to hope.”
Constantine described the video as “off script and real,” different from earlier pleas that sounded “strategic and written.”
The expert added that Guthrie’s siblings, Camron Guthrie and Annie Guthrie, appeared in earlier videos and "were not comfortable speaking."
Constantine said it was “an independent decision,” similar to how Guthrie’s brother released a separate video. Constantine added that while the family is united, “they couldn’t be more different.”
