During the investigation, detectives determined that Angel Martinez, 21, was responsible for the murder of Avila.

According to a witness, a group drove Avila to meet up with Martinez at the location of the shooting, The Dallas Morning News reported. From there, the witness told The Dallas Morning News that they heard gunshots and saw Avila fall to the ground.

After Martinez pointed a gun at his vehicle, the witness said he drove off and called 911, The Dallas Morning News reported.

He is currently in the Dallas County Jail with bail set at $500,000, according to The Dallas Morning News.
