After opening statements, Day 2 of the trial for Doomsday mom Lori Vallow took place in Idaho and a police detective shared grisly details about the day they found the remains of her two children, according to authorities.

On April 11, Rexburg police detective Ray Hermosillo took the stand and gave chilling details about finding the bodies of Vallow’s children, Joshua “J.J.” Vallow and Tylee Ryan, People reported.

Hermosillo said on June 9, 2020, police came to the property owned by Lori’s husband, Chad Daybell, and excavated part of the property’s pet cemetery.

He said, “A few of us got on our hands and knees and began digging around this moist section of dirt,” adding that investigators also started to smell a decomposing body.

"We eventually uncovered bits and pieces of Tylee — whom we assumed it was Tylee — that had been burned. There were pieces of bone, charred flesh, just globs of flesh that were falling apart," Hermosillo continued.

Investigators found more globs of burnt flesh and bone in a green bucket, Hermosillo said. They could only work for a few minutes at a time since the smell was so strong.

They kept digging and found a partial skull. Hermosillo said J.J.’s remains were found wrapped in black bags underneath a tree in the backyard. Investigators discovered this area after noticing the grass was shorter than other areas on the property.

Investigators removed the top layer of soil and then started to notice a “strong odor that through my training I knew was a decomposing body,” Hermosillo said.

They continued to dig and found wood paneling, black plastic bag and what appeared to be “the crown of a head,” according to Hermosillo. Investigators cut through the plastic bag and found what looked like human hair, he added.

Vallow is charged with murder in the deaths of her two children, J.J. and Tylee, Front Page Detectives previously reported. She was also charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the death of her husband Chad Daybell’s first wife Tammy Daybell.

The trial against Lori Vallow is ongoing.
