The survivors of late convicted s– offender Jeffrey Epstein have welcomed the news of former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest. On February 19, the British royal family member was taken into custody due to his connection to Epstein.
Mountbatten-Windsor, who was stripped of his royal titles in 2025, has been named several times in the recently released Epstein Files. Marina Lacerda, one of Epstein's victims, expressed relief that people associated with the abuser are finally being held accountable in the United Kingdom.
Marina Lacerda Releases Statement After Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s Arrest
Former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested in the UK on suspicion of misconduct while in public office.
Lacerda said in a statement to CNN, “It’s amazing, and it’s really, really something that all the survivors have been looking forward to and working towards.” The survivor also mentioned Virginia Giuffre, the late Epstein victim who had accused Mountbatten-Windsor of assaulting her when she was a minor.
Lacerda stated that Giuffre’s family could finally find some comfort. She also highlighted that while authorities in other countries have swung into action following the Epstein Files release, the U.S. has not yet made any arrests in the case.
She said, “I have to say, Virginia [Giuffre]’s brother and sister must be thrilled right now. You know, I just look at it– it’s insane how everyone’s taking action, and we are doing nothing in the United States.”
Lacerda also pointed out that even Norwegian officials are investigating Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who has also been named in the files. The survivor concluded, “I’m very, very happy that, you know, we have again, you know, we’re making history here. So this is big.”
According to emails declassified in the files, Mountbatten-Windsor supplied sensitive trade information to Epstein between 2001 and 2011, when he served as the UK’s special representative for trade and investment. The Thames Valley Police arrested him on the allegation of misconduct in public office, but released him after about 11 hours of investigation.
How Virginia Giuffre’s Family Reacted to the News
King Charles III, the brother of Mountbatten-Windsor, released a statement, promising full co-operation with investigative authorities. Meanwhile, Giuffre’s brother, Sky Roberts, spoke to BBC and thanked the king for supporting the investigation. Roberts also called the arrest a win for his sister, even though Mountbatten-Windsor was not taken into custody over s—-- assault allegations.
He expressed, “I commend the King. I say thank you to the King and to the royal family for standing behind survivors, but also just standing behind their people to say, it doesn't matter ... your wealth or your power, you don't have a different set of laws for you that don't apply to other people.”
Mountbatten-Windsor stepped back from his royal duties in November 2019 after reports of his connection with Epstein surfaced. In 2022, Queen Elizabeth II removed his military affiliations. Finally, in October 2025, King Charles initiated a formal process to remove all his royal titles.
Giuffre, who had accused Epstein of trafficking her to Mountbatten-Windsor, filed a civil lawsuit against the former Prince and reached a settlement with him in 2022. However, the years-long battle against influential people took an emotional toll on her, and she ended her life in April 2025.
