A day before the deadly incident, Segar was arrested after he forced his way into Griffin’s home, the sheriff’s office said.

“Griffin opened the door and Sager pushed past her,” the Levy County Sheriff’s Office said, Law & Crime reported. “Sager physically assaulted the boyfriend inside. The parties separated and Sager had fled prior to the deputies arriving.”

Sheriff’s deputies in Dooly County, Georgia, spotted Segar’s vehicle near Unadilla and began pursuing him. During the chase, authorities said, the suspect shot at officers, who reportedly did not return fire.

The suspect was killed following a crash.

Detectives believe Segar was heading to West Virginia when he died.

The investigation is ongoing.

“She’d give you the shirt off her back,” said the victim’s mother Diane Powell. “She did everything in her life for those two babies. She was the kindest, givingist, beautiful soul. Beautiful soul. She was beautiful inside and out.”
