According to an affidavit reviewed by Law & Crime, the incident began on April 4 around 11:30 p.m., when the girlfriend was getting food with four friends at Camp North End in Charlotte.

After leaving, the group drove back to the 2700 block of Columbus Circle.

Once they arrived, the woman and one friend allegedly decided to prank Ivey, who had been dating her for about five months.

Police say the prank involved the girlfriend’s male friend calling Ivey and pretending to be with her romantically.

Officers said Ivey was able to track the woman’s location on his phone, which may have helped him locate the group. After the call, the friends left again, and the situation quickly turned dangerous.

As the group drove away on Berryhill Road, Ivey allegedly followed them in a black Nissan sedan and tailgated their vehicle.

Police said he called his girlfriend while angry and drove recklessly, attempting to get them to pull over. The woman also told investigators that she saw what appeared to be a handgun being fired into the air.

Police said the situation escalated further when the vehicles reached an intersection. Authorities said the suspect pulled up beside a red Nissan Altima carrying the woman and her friends and allegedly fired three shots into the vehicle before driving away.

A traffic camera reportedly captured the black car beside the red one at 11:38 p.m., with “three bright bursts” visible at the time shots were fired. Windows in the red vehicle were shattered, according to police.
