The 27-year-old Oregon man filed a missing report about his 11-month-old son.

A 27-year-old man from Oregon, identified as Jared Scott Jeremy Stoller, reported his 11-month-old son was missing from his room at the Relax Inn. Stoller called the Sutherlin Police Department and claimed that his son was missing, according to KATU reports.

However, when he was later present at the police station, Stoller admitted to strangling his 11-month-old son and dumping the body. According to KEZI, Stoller initially admitted that the missing-person report was false and then confessed to killing the infant a few days earlier. Authorities confirmed that Stoller had killed his son, Jackson James Stoller, in Roseburg, before dumping the body in the South Umpqua River.

Although Stoller initially told the police that his son died during co-sleeping, he later confessed to manually strangling him. Stoller also agreed to lead authorities to the river where he had dumped the body.

The Douglas County Major Crimes Team, along with local law enforcement and rescue teams, discovered the infant’s body in the river near Old Merlose Road. The Register-Guard reported that an autopsy was pending.

Stoller is currently held in Douglas County Jail and has been charged with first-degree murder and second-degree abuse of a corpse. The investigation remains ongoing with multiple agencies involved. Stoller is scheduled to appear in court on March 20.

Civil court records indicate that Stoller was ordered to pay child support for his son, Jackson, three months ago. The court also granted full custody of the child to his mother. The order requiring Stoller to pay child support despite not having custody may have contributed to his motive of murdering the infant.

A woman who wished to remain anonymous but had previously known Stoller said, “The mother didn’t deserve her child being ripped away.” She expressed disbelief that Stoller could commit such a crime.

Authorities investigating the matter have urged anyone with information to come forward. As the investigation continues, more details regarding the incident are expected to be revealed.
