The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office in Florida started an investigation about inmates trying to arrange a drug delivery. Investigators determined that Eric Marcotte, 26, was having mail sent to him.

Marcotte’s mail was specifically birthday cars, with strips of Suboxone glued inside of them, according to the sheriff’s office.

Suboxone is an opioid that can often be used to treat an addiction.

Detectives intercepted a piece of mail to Marcotte on April 27 and found a birthday card with a peeling corner. As officers inspected the car, they found a piece of tape between the card containing the drug, according to the sheriff’s office.

“An inmate at the Green Roof Inn just extended his stay,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Inmates will try anything when it comes to getting drugs. Well, happy birthday to Eric but it’s not the surprise you were hoping for.”

Marcotte was charged with introduction of contraband into a correctional facility. He was in jail on allegations of grand theft and carjacking.
